BOB LINDEN, “Go Vegan Radio” host...
...is a New York City native and graduate of Queens College of the City University of New York who has led a double life - as a professional broadcaster, and animal rights advocate, often leading to dramatic conflict, like at KNUA - THE SOUND, the Gannett-owned radio station in Seattle, where right in the middle of a station drive that Bob, as Program Director, initiated to collect towels for oil-soaked otters in the Alaskan spill, management decided to accept bloody fur advertising. The fur was flying at the radio station. After a few choice words in elevated decibels with the ruffle-feathered General Manager, Bob was invited to exit the station. He refused to allow his hard work of creating a special music sound to attract an audience to be used to sell garments of torture and death. A similar situation arose thereafter in Washington D.C. when Bob was Program Director at JAZZY 100, but since Bob's music programming had increased station billing from $70,000 per month to $700,000 per month going basically worst to first in ratings, that station's ownership agreed to donate the amount of the fur advertising to animal organizations of Bob's choice: PETA, and the Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in Seattle (upon whose Board of Directors he had served). Bob has always steered his stations toward participation in major community service, especially advancing animal and environmental causes including the JAZZY 100 OFFICE RECYCLING PROJECT, a first-of-its-kind initiative in our nation’s capital fostering environmental cooperation between public and private sectors, and the JAZZY 103 (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill) DUMP THE DUMP CAMPAIGN in opposition to a neighborhood nuclear waste dump. Bob's promotional and marketing efforts have been featured on the CBS EVENING NEWS, CNN, the NEW YORK TIMES, AP, UPI, and elsewhere. He was named PROGRAM DIRECTOR OF THE WEEK by BILLBOARD MAGAZINE and received ADDY AWARDS for copywriting, and TV spot and billboard campaigns. Bob's gypsy radio life includes starting WQCD-CD 101in New York, programming LOVE 94 (he didn't name it) in Miami, and achieving highest ratings ever at 98.1 KIFM in San Diego. He has also served as Program Director of radio stations in Omaha, San Antonio, Las Vegas, and Atlanta. GO VEGAN WITH BOB LINDEN, celebrating 4 years on-air as of January ’05, is heard in Los Angeles on KTYM-AM-1460 and in San Diego on KCEO-AM-1000. This show represents the successful marriage of Bob's two lives, not to be confused with the unsuccessful marriage to the butcher's daughter. When Bob announced in 1971 that he was becoming a vegetarian after noticing that a chicken on his plate was someone (not some “thing”) murdered for his eating "pleasure", his future ex-mother-in-law, the butcher's wife, screamed, "You're gonna die if you eat like that!" Of course, she's right: but according to regular exposure of health studies on Bob's show, that should occur further in the distant future than if Bob continued to eat cadaver and drink trans-species mammary secretions. GO VEGAN WITH BOB LINDEN covers everything from slashed-food to cookie recipes, animal rights, diet, health, environment, world hunger, morality, justice, peace.. The weekly hour-long show also features exceptional guests. GO VEGAN WITH BOB LINDEN was the subject of a full-page article in ANIMALS AGENDA written by Pulitzer-Prize winning LA TIMES media critic HOWARD ROSENBERG and was featured as RADIO SHOW OF THE WEEK in the LA DAILY NEWS.
Bob also was instrumental in developing and promoting vegan festivals SAN DIEGO FALL-FEST and WORLDFEST-LA, for which he was also emcee. He has served as Media Coordinator for FARM and the GREAT AMERICAN MEATOUT. Bob is an animal lover who has been joyously vegan for 21 years.
